New: By booking our new GoGreen Plus International service when shipping packages and parcels to Australia, Israel and the US, you actively contribute to offsetting the greenhouse gases emitted during transit. Your contribution flows directly into our logistics processes, cutting carbon emissions by the average value of your shipment. We achieve this by implementing additional reduction measures in our logistics network (known as insetting) - using biojet fuel and electric delivery vehicles, for example.

Booking the chargeable GoGreen Plus International service means we can use biojet fuel (sustainable aviation fuel, also known as SAF) for air freight shipments with DHL aircraft on a growing number of routes. Your contribution thus reduces carbon emissions in our logistics network by the value that a shipment would generate in the weight class you ordered and on your selected route. That makes your shipment sustainable.
The service must meet stringent regulations and standards, with compliance subject to verification by the independent product auditing firm SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance).
To ensure your shipment is sustainable, we calculate the quantity of biojet fuel to be used for the weight class of your shipment and the distance to the destination country. The biojet fuel we purchase is used in our own network of DHL aircraft, but not necessarily in the aircraft carrying your shipment. We also implement additional sustainable measures - such as deploying electric vehicles - to avoid generating emissions when transporting your shipment, both in Germany and internationally. With this approach, the amount charged for the GoGreen Plus International service reflects the average costs involved in offsetting the emissions generated and is fully invested in activities to reduce them.

With GoGreen, the emissions generated in transporting a shipment are compensated for (offset) through investments in climate protection projects in countries around the globe. We implement this offsetting process automatically for all letter mail items and private customer parcels worldwide - at no extra charge. |

With GoGreen Plus we avoid carbon emissions from the outset by implementing additional reduction measures (insetting) in our logistics network - using biojet fuel and electric delivery vehicles, for example. GoGreen Plus is a faster, more direct route to sustainable shipping than GoGreen.

Sustainable aviation fuel is a generic term that describes all sustainable aviation fuels (bio-kerosine and synthetic kerosine) produced from non-fossil-fuel-based sources (such as cooking oil and agricultural biowaste). Unlike in the production of conventional aviation fuel, carbon is removed from the atmosphere and captured when producing the feedstocks (plant growth), thereby reducing the climate impact of the carbon cycle.
Greater use of biojet fuel can reduce the carbon footprint when transporting shipments by air, leading to reductions in crude oil consumption and carbon emissions. Using biojet fuel has a direct climate protection effect and is currently the most significant option for carbon reduction in aviation.
The service is available to private customers wanting to book Päckchen International and Paket International via the DHL Online Franking portal to ship items to Australia, Israel and the US.
The service is to be expanded to include additional countries in the future.
The chargeable service can be booked via the DHL Online Franking portal to ship an international package or parcel to Australia, Israel or the US.
You can then drop off your package or parcel in the usual way at one of our retail outlets, Paketshops or Packstations, or hand it to one of our couriers.
Using the Book&Claim system, we can offer GoGreen Plus International for our international shipments even though biojet fuel is not yet available at all of our airports. Book&Claim is based on the one-atmosphere, global emissions and global reductions approach. It makes no difference whether the DHL aircraft used to transport a GoGreen Plus International shipment has biojet fuel in its tank. What counts is that the calculated quantity of biojet fuel is actually used within our aviation network, thereby reducing emissions overall.
Currently, we have no comparable service on offer that business customers can use. However, we are working on solutions to enable our business customers to reduce the carbon emissions generated in transporting their shipments.
