SURCHARGES

In order to constantly maintain our high service levels, surcharges apply for certain services.

EXPORT

  • Dangerous goods declared according to current IATA-DGR for passenger aircraft and exemptions according to ADR 1.1.3.4 (LQ & EQ)
  • Dangerous goods for road transport according to ADR 1.1.3.4 and 1.1.3.9
  • Dry Ice (UN1845)
  • Lithium Batteries according to section II IATA-DGR packing instructions 966-967 and 969-970
  • Excepted Quantities (UN numbers matched with E1 to E5 codes according to IATA-DGR)

Note: Biological substances category B (UN3373) and genetically modified organisms (UN3245) can only be shipped with DHL Medical Express. Details are available on the product page DHL Medical Express.

A temporary surcharge, which allows us to cover operating cost increases due to an emergency situation out of DHL's control. Change in market dynamics and air capacity availability is reflected through regular price adjustments.

For shipments to countries or territories affected by continuous war, riots or danger through terrorism.

This currently applies to the following countries: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Somalia Mogadishu, Somalia Hargeisa, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and Yemen.

When shipping to or importing from a destination country that is subject to certain trade restrictions imposed by the UN Security Council or national laws such as the European Union's EEAS or the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), a surcharge will apply. 

This currently applies to Iraq, Iran, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Libya, North Korea, Somalia Mogadishu, Somalia Hargeisa, Syria and the Central African Republic.

Countries subject to national laws: Afghanistan, Belarus, Lebanon, Myanmar, Russia, Zimbabwe

To ensure operational continuity during a period of high demand, DHL Express will be activating Demand Surcharges effective October 1, 2025 until February 16, 2026.

Charge amounts and application dates may vary throughout the demand period determined by DHL. Any changes will be subject to prior notice.

The surcharges can be found in the following international price matrix and are applicable in € per kg (billing weight), based on the shipment’s origin and destination. Fuel Surcharge applies.

Day Definite International2

During the Demand Period, a flat 0.15 € per kg Demand Surcharge applies to all  International Day Definite shipping services. 
 

2DHL ECONOMY SELECT and DHL ECONOMY BREAKBULK  including the respective Import and 3rd Country equivalents. 

A fixed surcharge is applied to every piece, including a pallet, with a single dimension in excess of 100 cm.

This surcharge applies to any piece within a shipment with an actual weight between 25kg and 70kg. Does not apply to pieces already subject to the Overweight or Oversize Piece Surcharges.

A fixed surcharge is applied to every piece, including a pallet, that exceeds a scale or volumetric weight of 70 kg.

For each pallet of a shipment that cannot be stacked due to its shape, contents, packaging or shipper's instructions.

Surcharge for paper invoices.

Surcharge for shipments that could only be delivered after correcting the delivery address.

Surcharge for data entry of manual waybills by DHL Express.

IMPORT
