New legal regulations require special labeling of parcels with increased weight for all parcel service providers. We always want to offer you reliable quality in compliance with all legal requirements. Therefore, we are making changes that will affect parcels with increased weight from the entry into force of the postal law amendment:

Customers will be required to provide correct information on parcel weights in their PAN data and label heavy DHL domestic and international parcels as such to ensure that we can continue to provide reliable quality and comply with all occupational safety regulations for our employees.

DHL Paket shipments including DHL Paketmarke national and DHL Paket production-based billing, and DHL Paket International including DHL Paketmarke International with increased weight must be marked as such on the label indicated here:

There are two weight classes

Weight classes
over 10 to 20 kg
over 20 kg
In some cases, a parcel may be labeled with a sticker from DHL available free of charge in the Post & DHL Business Customer Portal:
Weight classes
over 10 to 20 kg
over 20 kg
  • The correct labeling will be integrated directly into DHL dispatch logistics systems ("Ship" function in the Post & DHL Business Customer Portal) and the API starting in October 2024. Mandatory labeling starts January 1, 2025.
  • In-house programmers (or EDI-CC users) can find all information and specifications in the Group API Developer Portal (developer.dhl.com) if they have registered and the download area is activated.
  • Parcels with DHL Paketmarke, DHL Paketmarke International or DHL Paket production-based billing should be labeled with stickers that can be ordered free of charge on the Post & DHL Business Customer Portal.

YOUR THREE-POINT CHECKLIST FOR SHIPPING CORRECTLY LABELED PARCELS:

  1. Provide correct weight information in the PAN data
  2. Provide correct information on the label
  3. Post correctly labeled parcels with increased weight with DHL

From January 1, 2025, parcels with increased weight must be labeled. There are two labels for this:

  • For parcels weighing more than 10 kg to 20 kg.
  • For parcels weighing more than 20 kg: separate labeling, which differs significantly from the 10-20 kg labeling.

Thank you for your feedback.

If labels are generated via the Post & DHL Business Customer Portal, the DHL API or DHL Partner, no adjustments are necessary on the part of the business customers.

In the case of in-house programming (EDI-CC use), the labelling must be integrated into the system by December 31, 2024. Information on this can be found in the Group API Developer Portal at developer.dhl.com.

As a general rule, business customers must submit correct shipment weights to DHL and as of January 1, 2025 label shipments correctly.
